New Saffron & Orange – a long-awaited red glögg alternative
After several years of high demand for new glögg alternatives based on red rather than white wine, Blossa Saffron & Orange – a Christmassy taste sensation combining Blossa’s classic glögg spices with rounded saffron and fresh orange – is now available.
For the past 21 years, Blossa has launched an interpretation of their classic craftsmanship tradition where the characteristic glögg spices are mixed with new flavors. This has led to a tradition for many Swedes to complement the traditional glöggs with a more exciting alternative. However, the majority of these glögg variants have been based on white wine, despite red wine-based glöggs being the most popular among the classic glöggs. New this year, in addition to the annual glögg, Blossa is releasing an extra flavored variant based on red wine.
– Since we do not use artificial aromas but only natural ingredients, it has historically been more difficult to find flavors that are distinct enough in a red glögg, which has so much taste in itself. But after many idea rounds and tastings, we have now found a combination that works very well and that we believe will be widely appreciated, says Sophia Natt och Dag, blender at Blossa.
Saffron and orange - classic Christmas tastes
The new Blossa glögg Saffron & Orange is a red mulled wine that truly embraces Christmas. Saffron is one of our most exclusive and popular spices, and we have a long tradition in Sweden of mainly using it in Christmas baking. This makes us unique in the world and also a major importer. Oranges are also popular around Christmas, not least because they are in season. In the red glögg, saffron provides a warm, rounded flavor, and the orange adds freshness from its zest.
– Our flavored glöggs are highly appreciated, but one of the most common questions we get is if we can make more red variants, says Emelie Eriksson, Senior Brand Manager at Blossa.
