Blossa's original recipe from 1895 recreated in limited edition

Blossa's original recipe forms the basis for all our glöggs today. This year, we have recreated this very glögg in a limited edition of Blossa Glögg Original 1895. An enchanting fortified glögg made from port wine and glögg spices aged in oak barrels.

1895. That was the name of this fortified glögg in a previous edition and is also the year the recipe is dated. Blossa Glögg began selling in the mid-1800s in Gamla stan in Stockholm, but it is this recipe that all our glöggs are still inspired by today.

The original recipe contained today's equivalent of port wine, which is one of the ingredients that makes the fortified glögg exceptionally difficult to recreate on a larger scale and the reason why this glögg has only been available for purchase twice previously, many years ago.

– This is our absolute most requested recipe, and I am so happy that we once again have had the chance to recreate it, albeit in a very limited edition, says Åsa Orsvärn, Chief Blender at Blossa since 1998. I am proud of Blossa's craftsmanship regardless of the glögg, but the original recipe is something quite special with both port wine, Tarragona Ruby, Muscatel and our characteristic glögg spices aged in oak barrels. If you close your eyes, you can almost feel the magic of Christmas from a century ago.

Recipe with port wine and oak ages spices

Blossa Glögg Original 1895 is a fortified glögg with great character and rich deep flavor, which is much thanks to the port wine mixed with Tarragona Ruby, Muscatel, and red wine. Just like all of Blossa's glögg spices, they have been extracted for eight weeks and then aged for three months, but what really distinguishes these is that they have been aged in oak barrels. Afterward, everything is blended with the finest sugar. The glögg has a large spicy aroma of dried fruit, cocoa, and chocolate, and a rich taste with deep sweetness from the port wine and clear spiciness from cloves and cardamom.

It is slightly stronger than traditional glögg with its 18% alcohol and is recommended to be served at room temperature in a port wine glass, but can of course be warmed for those who prefer it. Additionally, it is a glögg that is excellent for aging. The design is a tribute to the traditional Swedish Christmas and makes it a perfect gift for all Christmas lovers.
